RAW material: light is a workshop for photographers from all over Europe who are interested in exploring the concept of landscape as the subject of their visual research. In Cortona, photographers of different origins and backgrounds will undertake the challenge of deciphering a landscape rich in history, as well as personal experiences and family stories. The workshop is organised by Cortona Sviluppo with the support of the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union / Grundtvig, and it will be guided by myself together with two friend photographers: Marco Resti and Federico Busonero.

The workshop took place in Cortona, Italy, from 10 to 17 June 2012. Activities included theoretical sessions, street and landscape photography fieldwork, excursions, digital darkroom editing, video screenings and one-to-one reviews. Participants worked in small teams on specific projects, and they produced a number of photo essays and a collective blog. Working language is English.

Participants must be 18 and over; they are expected to have a fair experience in digital photography and to be fluent in English. EU-LLP funding allows the organiser to invite 12 participants from at least three of the following countries: any EU member state except Italy; Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey, Croatia and Switzerland. Six additional participants from Italy may join the workshop at their own expense.

Application deadline: 31 January 2012
